SUO MOTU COGNIZANCE ON LAWYER COUPLE MURDER: TELANGANA HIGH COURT


    The Bench of Justice Hima Kohli and B Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court took suo motu cognizance of the murder of Gattu Vaman Rao and his wife P.V Nagamani who were both practising lawyers at the Telangana High Court in broad daylight.


    The couple admitted and complained about the harassment they have been facing due to filing a Public Interest Litigations against alleged custodial death of Sheelam Rangaiah in Manthani. They were returning from Hyderabad after attending a court case when their vehicle was impeded and they were ambushed and assaulted by unidentified men while many onlookers witnessed and refused to intervene.
    The couple was immediately hurried to the hospital but however, they both succumbed to their injuries.


    The Telangana Bar Council has requested the police to query into the matter. They have also requested the state government to enact the Advocate Protection Act because of the frequent rising of attack cases on advocates.
