Lawyer writes to PM, urging the addition of Section 493A in IPC to stop conversion and love jihad.

A letter has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a request to add Section 493A in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to stop Conversion and Love Jihad.

The letter is written by Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay. In his letter he wrote that many individuals and organizations have started mass religious conversion of the socially and economically downtrodden men, women and children. The Organizations target the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community. The evidence of this deceitful act of religion conversion is available on social media. The Foreign Funded Institutions and NGO’s are given a monthly target to complete.

As per 2011 census, Hindus are 79 percent that is down from 86 percent in 2001. Christians have a majority of 88 percent in Mizoram. Muslims are majority in Lakshadweep with a majority of 96.20 percent.

The letter also showed its concern towards the decreasing number of Hindus in a country which was once a complete Hindu majority country. Upadhyay, suggested the Government can maintain discipline and reduce the forceful conversion by amending Section 493 of IPC and adding Section 493A.

According to this section, whoever is convicted would serve imprisonment of 5-10 years with fine of Rs 50,000 to 5,00,000. The letter further says that the Centre can empower the National Human Rights Commission to deal with the affairs of religious groups and analyze religious discrimination among them.

The letter addressed to PM Modi also demands enactment of a law which shall strictly ban or scrutinize foreign funds which operate under the hide of an NGO.

The letter also says: that the Government has done little or nothing in order to stop religious conversions by force or by offering luring gifts or money.
