China begins import of Indian rice after gap of two years

    China has started importing Indian rice after a gap of two years and has placed orders for shipment of about 5,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice due to competitive prices offered by India .India is the biggest exporter of rice which China is the biggest importer. In last two months China has placed for shipment of about 5,000 tonnes of broken rice from South India. Broken rice is used for making noodles as well as in wine industry.

    Countries supplying rice to China like, Pakistan, Myanmar have limited surplus supplies for export and were quoting at least $30 per tonne more compared with Indian prices. It is also being heard, China can increase quantity of importing rice in next year according to the quality of Indian rice.
